Junior varsity wrestlers battle at Waterloo tourney


The Boardman junior varsity wrestlers competed in the annual Waterloo Vikings Tournament Jan. 16 and placed ninth, with 12 of the 16 wrestlers placing in the top six and nine earning medals for placing in the top four.

The pool tournament format allowed each competitor to get four to five matches, instead of a double elimination format.

Tom Moran (145) and Devoun Fletcher (171) each won their weight class championships to lead the Spartans.

Shawn Haynes (160), Chris Flaugher (189) and Joe Cordova (215) earned second place in their respective weight classes. Matt Inghram (135) and Carlo DeAscentis (152) took third.

Matt Koziorynsky (152) and John Dubiel (160) earned fourth-place finishes. Alex Rich (103), Jack Liggitt (125) and Kyle Kondas (130) each placed fifth.
