Glenwood 7th graders poised for 2nd half

Currently in his first season as coach of the Glenwood Middle School seventh-grade boy’s program, Eric Moore is hoping that his team’s challenging 0-7 start has prepared them for the stretch run of the season.

“We like to push the ball up the court, running whenever the opportunity presents itself while playing man-to-man defensively.

“We look for the easy bucket, but realize that it takes plenty of hard work at both ends of the court if we expect to be successful,” Moore said.

With rivals Austintown Red & Blue Middle School posing the opposition this past week, Moore continues to look to his starting five for much needed leadership.

Those starters include Marcus Smith (6.0 ppg) and Vince Valentini (3.0 ppg) at forward; Darnell Walton (3.0 ppg) in the middle, Preston Wehr (4.5 ppg) in the backcourt and either Dom DiIullo (3.0 ppg) and Aaron Tompkins (4.5 ppg), who have split time starting the last four games at guard.

Off the bench, Moore calls upon center Jayson Young and forward/center David Zaitzew and a plethora of guard talent that includes Colton Rockhold, Mike Marquette, Scott Aey, Dustin Hellman and Carl Seidita.
