Poland girls basketball team wins in final seconds

The Poland eighth grade girls basketball team had an exciting finish against Liberty.

Korinna Sherman made a three-point basket with 4.4 seconds left in the game to spark the team to a 32-29 victory over Liberty.

Sherman scored seven points overall, Emily Shields had six points and nine rebounds, Taylor Miokovic had eight points and Pheobe Bush had eight rebounds.

Poland Bulldogs fall short

The Poland eighth grade boys basketball team successfully executed an out-of-bounds play that yielded an open three-point shot for the tie in the final seconds of play, but the shot was off the mark and Liberty defeated the Bulldogs 46-43.

Joey Mika led the scoring with 12 points. Jacob Roemer led in rebounding and assists, with six and three, respectively. Roemer, Steven Andrews and Tyler Evan had three steals apiece.

Poland Community Baseball signups

Registration for 2010 Poland Community Baseball season will only be available online starting Monday. There will be no transaction fee. For information and fees, visit the Poland Community Baseball Association’s Web site at www.thepcba.org.

Boosters host youth basketball tournament

Poland Boosters are hosting a basketball tournament for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade boys and girls Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 6-7. The tournament will be held at the high school, middle school and elementary school. To enter, the cost is $100 per team, and registrations and entry fees must be received by Friday. It is limited to the first 40 paid entries.
