Ready, Set, Skate!

Students from Austintown’s elementary schools began their winter skating program at Skate Zone on Jan. 13. Participating students attend roller skating lessons with their classmates once a week.

Angie Bowman, the office manager at Skate Zone, says the program is great because it gives kids the opportunity to get away from their computers and televisions.

“The skate program helps kids to develop a healthy hobby,” Bowman said. “It’s 40 minutes of cardio activity, but skating also uses all of the major muscle groups.”

Skate Zone has been running the after-school skating enrichment program for the past four years. Elementary schools from the Canfield, Boardman and Austintown districts participate in six-week programs.

Each session includes a lesson with Donna and Paul Pressell, Skate Zone’s artistic skate coaches.
