High Flyers travel team wins tournament

The Mahoning Valley Flyers, a sixth-grade travel basketball team from Boardman recently went 4-1 to win the championship of the Canfield Cardinals Basketball Classic.

Players on the team attend Market Street Elementary, West Boulevard Elementary, Boardman Center Middle and Boardman Glenwood Middle School and are in fourth and sixth grades.

The team lost its first-round game to St. Michaels of Canfield by one point and won a second-round game against Canfield Red. The team was seeded third in the playoff round and beat Canfield Red, St. Michaels of Canfield and St. Charles to win the overall tournament.
