Bresson repeats as Village Middle spelling champ
Canfield Village Middle School held its annual spelling bee on Jan. 13. The competition was presided over by WFMJ’s Scott Schneider, who pronounced the words and later posed for photos with all of the champions.
Eighth-grader Rollin Bresson took the title for the second year running, winning in the 11th round.
Alyssa Kerensky, the seventh-grade champion, was awarded the runner-up prize. As the school champion, Bresson appeared with Schneider and Lauren Lindvig on the “WFMJ Today” morning show on Friday.
Bresson comes from a family of spelling bee champions — his brother, Ryan, won Canfield Middle School’s spelling bee in 2002 and their mother Jane won her school’s bee in the seventh grade. The Bressons credit their sons’ spelling prowess to reading and very little television.
The school also recognized the winners of the grade-level competitions. Austin Householder finished first for fifth-graders. David Montazeri took home the sixth-grade prize. Willie Goble was recognized as the eighth-grade champion.
