Trumbull in $6M job grant

YOUNGSTOWN — The U.S. Department of Labor said Wednesday that Trumbull County is one of 44 Ohio counties that can participate in a $6 million grant to train workers for jobs in alternative energy fields, including wind, solar and biomass. The grant is targeted at displaced autoworkers, women, minorities and veterans. The goal is to enroll 1,600 people in job-training programs. The Department of Labor announced 34 grants that totaled $190 million. The money is coming from federal-stimulus funds.

Smucker’s offers $25,000 for best Folgers video

ORRVILLE, Ohio — The company that owns Folgers coffee is offering a $25,000 prize to the person who can best perk up the brand’s famous jingle.

J.M. Smucker Co., the nation’s top maker of jams and jellies, is searching for 30- to 60-second video tributes to Folgers that include the melody and lyrics to “The Best Part of Wakin’ Up.”

Smucker spokeswoman Maribeth Badertscher says contestants should tell a story and share their wakin’-up morning rituals. The winner also gets a chance to appear in a Folgers commercial.
