BOARDMAN — A Grover Drive woman is charged with child endangering, accused of leaving her niece and nephew alone while the home was burglarized.

Lashonda M. Doneway, 20, is set to appear today in Mahoning County Court on the misdemeanor charge.

Police were initially called early Wednesday to the Grover Drive house on a report of an attempted suicide. No one answered the front door when officers arrived.

While checking the house, officers found that a rear door had been forced open. When an officer pushed on the door, an alarm sounded.

A 9-year-old girl then met police at the front door, saying she was there with her 5-year-old brother. The alarm woke the children, who were alone in the home.

Their mother arrived a short time later and told police that her sister, Doneway, had been watching the children while their mother attended school.

The mother found that a plasma television and electronic gaming systems were missing.

Doneway arrived and told police that she was watching her sister’s children and her two children but left to take her children, their father and another man to an apartment on LeMans Drive.

She didn’t return right away because the men took her car to buy cigars, Doneway told police. When she did return, she discovered the burglary.
