Boardman and Poland police calls


A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Jan. 14

Drugs: Police responded to a vehicle off the side of Dobbins Road and arrested 25-year-old Blake A. Via, 61 Walnut St., Struthers, upon learning he was wanted by Boardman authorities on a felony charge of trafficking in drugs.

Jan. 14

Theft by deception: An employee with Taylor Kia, 7975 Market St., told authorities a man bought a car for $17,671 and was to pay cash, secure financing or return the vehicle within 30 days, but failed to do so.

Theft: A man at a Boardman-Poland Road eatery reported the theft of his $100 cell phone.

Misuse of a credit card: A township woman said her stolen card was used without permission to make two unauthorized charges totaling $148 at two Girard locations.

Auto theft: A 1995 Buick Century was missing from an apartment in the 4000 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Theft: Twenty DVDs and compact discs, a global positioning system unit, an MP3 player and other items were missing from a vehicle in the 100 block of Maple Drive.

Damage/theft: Several residents on Windsor and Overhill roads, Prestwick Drive and other nearby streets reported damage to their vehicles. Money was missing from one of the cars.

Arrest: Officers responded to a suspicious person at a U.S. Route 224 business and took into custody 32-year-old Bryan J. Hackett, of 7410 West Blvd. He was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: Police booked and released on a summons 18-year-old Jazmine N. Edwards, 251 Madison Ave., Youngstown, and Kali M. Woods, 21, of 93 Wick Oval, Youngstown. Both were accused of stealing about $170 worth of clothing from Wal-Mart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Theft: A deposit containing an undisclosed amount was missing from Plumb Gold in the Southern Park Mall.

Theft/forgery: A Shields Road woman checked her account and noticed it was $400 short, and that seven personal checks had been forged and cashed. Burglary: Took place in the 50 block of Shields Road, where a $1,250, 52-inch plasma TV was missing.

Jan. 15

Arrest: Lonny E. Parry, 43, of 3880 Dunbar Ave., Austintown, was charged with violating a protection order after a Woodrow Avenue woman told police she had seen him walking past her residence. Despite the order the woman had against Parry, he later showed up at her place of employment, a report said.

Assault: A woman told police her son had been struck three times in the head at Boardman Center Middle School, 7410 Market St.

Misuse of a credit card: A West Parkside Drive man discovered his card had been used to make five unauthorized purchases totaling $4,342 at a Jacksonville, Fla., store.

Assault: Officers responded to a fight between two females in the 100 block of Maple Drive, where one girl had a bloody nose and a cut near her left eye.

Burglary: In the 4000 block of Shelbourne Drive. Money, medications and a lock box were missing.

Assault: Police responded to St. Elizabeth Health Center’s Boardman Campus, where an employee of a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant alleged a co-worker had head-butted the accuser during an argument about work-related issues.

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open a side door to Aerotech Mechanical Contractors, 574 McClurg Road, then stole about $11,000 worth of copper pipes and fittings.

Jan. 16

Theft: Barbara M. Stauffer, 27, of 5354 Copeland Ave. N.W., Warren, was charged in the theft of $158 worth of clothing, CDs and DVDs from Wal-Mart.

Burglary: Someone entered an empty apartment in the 100 block of Stadium Drive through the front door.

Menacing: A woman at a McClurg Road business said a man had threatened to harm her.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 1900 block of Boardman-Poland Road sustained damage to its hood and a scratch to the right front fender. Damage came to $600.

Fraud: A Meadowbrook Avenue woman reported someone is using her phone number for nefarious purposes, saying she received several threatening calls from creditors.

Criminal damaging: A 17-year-old Warren girl faced charges of criminal damaging and possession of criminal tools after being accused of using a pair of scissors to cut the packaging of several items at Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Sixty-one prescription medications were stolen from a Midwood Circle home.

Theft: Someone removed $30 from a car in the 30 block of Lucerne Lane.

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 900 block of Boardman-Poland Road resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Tyeisha S. Teague, of 443 Garfield St., Youngstown. Teague was wanted on a probation-violation count; the original charge was larceny.

Theft: Several tenants in the 4000 block of South Schenley Avenue reported their vehicles had been entered. Among the property stolen were an MP3 player, a GPS unit, an in-dash CD player and medications.

Jan. 17

Menacing/damage: A man in the 4000 block of South Avenue found a flattened tire to his vehicle and said he also had been threatened with a knife.

Breaking and entering: A nail gun, an air compressor and a garage-door opener were missing from a home in the 200 block of Nevada Avenue that someone had broken into.

Theft/damage: Someone entered a vehicle in the 100 block of Danbury Drive, then removed $665.

Theft: A stereo faceplate and a GPS device were stolen from a car in the 6700 block of Trenholm Drive.

Theft: Two identification cards and a grocery-store card were removed from a vehicle in the 7000 block of West Boulevard.

Burglary/damage: Someone pushed open a window before stealing a computer and a surround-sound system from an apartment in the 400 block of Mathews Road. The tenant’s vehicle also had all of its tires flattened and the brake lines cut.

Jan. 18

Theft: Three people left TGI Fridays on Doral Drive without paying a $102 bar tab.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 4200 block of Glenwood Avenue through an unlocked sliding-glass door. Stolen were a $2,000 diamond ring and a laptop computer.

Aggravated menacing: A worker with a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant told authorities a co-worker had made several threats and that as the accuser entered his car, the co-worker made a gesture to simulate having a weapon.

Burglary: Through a rear window to a residence in the 1900 block of Wingate Road. A 60-inch flat-screen TV, a men’s gold ring, personal checks and $300 worth of miscellaneous coins were stolen.
