Canfield and Austintown police calls


A summary of police activity in the city of Canfield and Austintown:

CANFIELD

Feb. 15

Furnishing firearms to a minor: The city’s juvenile officer was informed a 16-year-old Cardinal Drive boy had a rifle and a handgun. The matter was reported to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department since the boy lived in the township, and an investigation was started. Police learned that the guns were sold to the teen by another 16-year-old boy.

Feb. 18

Theft: $17 was taken from a teaching assistant’s purse at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road. Police arrested a 17-year-old Youngstown male in the theft.

Feb. 19

Disorderly conduct: Police charged two female students in a fight at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, one a minor, and the other Briawna Gray, 18, of 63 Notre Dame Drive, Campbell.

Theft: A package was picked up by a woman who claimed to have been sent by the owner at the UPS Store, 415 E. Main St. The package, containing $50 in merchandise and a gift card, was reported stolen by the real owner, who came in later in the day to claim the package.

Theft: A female reported that $25 to $30 and other items had been taken from her purse, which she discovered as she was leaving Studio Oxygen, 548 E. Main St.

Drug abuse: Police charged Kyler Sparks, 19, of 1810 4th Street, New Brighton, Pa., with drug abuse, obtaining and possession after her arrest on Main Street. A small amount of suspected marijuana was found in her possession, police said.

Drug abuse, paraphernalia, wrongful entrustment: Police found a blue glass pipe, a small bag of suspected marijuana in it, and a suspected marijuana cigarette in a car after a traffic stop on East Main Street. Police charged Matthew A. Scott, 24, of Akron, with drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia, and Alisha Snow, 20, of Tallmadge, with wrongful entrustment.

Feb. 20

Falsification: Police arrested Adrian L. Burt, 35, of Canton, and Nakeya Jones, 30, also of Canton, on charges of falsification after a stop on West Main Street.

Feb. 21

Drug abuse/paraphernalia: Police arrested Robert K. Baird, 21, of 12692 Kent Road, Salem, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and drug abuse after a traffic stop on Lisbon Street. Police said they found a blue metal smoke pipe with suspected marijuana residue, a metal grinder with suspected marijuana residue, two packs of rolling papers and eight suspected marijuana cigarettes.

AUSTINTOWN

Feb. 15

Disorderly conduct: Police charged Dominic Chiera, 33, of 1602 Meadowbrook Drive, Youngstown, with disorderly conduct at the TA Travel Center, 5400 Seventy-Six Drive.

Drug offense: Two juveniles were turned over to their families after they were found to have suspected drug paraphernalia in the 4000 block of New Hampshire Court.

Theft: The top section of a clothes washer was taken at apartments in the 4000 block of Nantucket Boulevard.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle windshield was damaged at apartments in the 1000 block of Compass West.

Domestic violence: A 14-year-old boy was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center on an allegation he assaulted his mother’s boyfriend at a home in the 2000 block of South Main Street.

Theft: An Apple iPod was taken from a room at a house in the 5000 block of Baker Street.

Auto theft: A 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass was stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Paisley Street. The vehicle later was recovered in Liberty.

Feb. 16

Drug offense: A man reported finding suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his teenage granddaughter’s bedroom at a home in the 3000 block of Meanderwood Drive. The girl was taken to the juvenile justice center.

Fraud: A man in the 1000 block of Woodgate Street reported that someone accessed his ATM card and made a $200 online purchase with it without his knowledge.

Vehicle theft: A 1994 Burgundy S-10 pickup truck was stolen from Phoenix House, 850 M. Meridian Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Mark Piroch Jr., 21, of 128 N. Main Street, Austintown on warrants, including failure to comply, resisting arrest, and two charges of domestic violence, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown.

Warrant: Police arrested Brian E. Chuey, 43, of 4273 Selkirk Road, on a warrant charging him with telephone harassment at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was taken to Mahoning County jail.

Theft: A woman reported that a $100 bill was taken by a male suspect who came to her home and said he and two females and a male would shovel her driveway for $20 in the 4000 block of Nottingham Drive. The suspect said he had change, and when the woman gave him the money, all of the suspects fled without finishing the drive.

Feb. 17

Burglary: Jewelry was taken from a home in the 4000 block of New Road.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle window was damaged at Wal-Mart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.

Warrant: Police arrested Brian S. Torres, 20, of 52 Crescent Drive, Struthers, at the George V. Voinovich Building, 242 West Federal St., Youngstown, on Austintown warrants charging him with complicity to menacing and complicity to criminal damaging.

Warrant: Police arrested Willie E. Bryant, 43, of Cleveland, on a warrant charging that he made false statements to secure unemployment- compensation benefits at South Canfield-Niles Road and Mahoning Avenue.

Lost or stolen plate: A dealer plate was reported lost or stolen at Bob and Chuck Eddy’s auto dealership, 4850 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A woman reported her 15-year-old son is a suspect in the charging of $90 on a debit card through Internet companies at a home in the 5000 block of West Rockwell Road.

Theft: A total of $33.64 in gas was stolen at Unimart, 5502 Mahoning Ave.

Assault: Police were called to Styx, 3680 S. Meridian Road, where a man claimed a male suspect punched him in the face knocking him to the floor. The man called police again later and said the suspect, who claimed he was a Youngstown police officer, was calling his residence and harassing his wife.

Warrant: Police arrested Anthony J. Shaffer, 23, of 4405 Plumbrook Drive, Canfield, on two warrants charging menacing and criminal damaging. He turned himself in.

Attempted burglary: Pry marks were found on the door of a home in the 4000 block of New Road.

Feb. 18

Fraud: A woman reported that $372.35 in unauthorized charges had been made to her husband’s credit card in the 6000 block of Fairview Road.

Weapons offense: K. Shawn Weaver, 18, of 208 W. Ravenwood Ave., Youngstown, was placed in county jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, and Sanford Byrd, 19, of 1037 Manley Ave., Youngstown, was issued a summons on charges of obstruction in the 5300 block of Seventy-Six Drive.

Drug offense: Police arrested Andrew Boyer, 27, of 4383 Lanterman Road, Austintown, on charges of drug abuse, marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, a marijuana pipe, at North Meridian Road and Oregon Avenue.

Fraud: Two unauthorized charges were made to an account at an apartment in the 4000 block of Westchester Drive.

Feb. 19

Auto theft: A 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera was stolen at Wal-Mart.

Lost or stolen property: A men’s wallet was reported lost or stolen at an apartment at Phoenix House.

Recovered property: A stolen 2000 Pontiac Sunbird was recovered at Resurrection Cemetery, 300 N. Raccoon Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Tatiana N. Hammond, 27, of 2823 Ridley Ave., Youngstown, on a warrant charging her with failure to appear on traffic charges at Mahoning Avenue and Meridian Road.

Warrant: Police arrested Shawn E. Miller, 30, of 230 Plymouth Ave., Girard, on a warrant on charges of receiving stolen property at Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 422.

Feb. 20

Criminal mischief: Eggs were thrown at a vehicle at a home in the 100 block of Forest Hill Drive.

Telephone harassment: A man is a suspect in making harassing phone calls at a home in the 5000 block of Westgate Boulevard.

Theft: An employee was short-changed $59.21 at the Sandwich Factory, 15 N. Canfield-Niles Road.

Assault: Two 9-year-olds were fighting on a school bus in the 4500 block of Kirk Road.

Theft: The window on an auto was damaged, and a CB radio was stolen at Fuel Mart, 5301 Seventy-Six Drive.

Telecommunications harassment: A female received unwanted phone calls from a man at a home in the 3000 block of North Roanoke Avenue.

Feb. 21

Vehicle theft: A 1995 Chevrolet Blazer was stolen from a home in the 4000 block of Woodhurst Drive.

Theft: A Garmin GPS, DVDs, cash and tools were stolen from a vehicle at Fuel Mart, 5301 Seventy-Six Drive.

Theft: A floor scrubber and two wet/dry vacuums were stolen from an auto in the parking lot at Beechwood Cleaning, 5204 Mahoning Ave.

Theft: A woman took $340 from her friend at an apartment in the 4000 block of Deer Creek.
