Holiday tournament features local teams

The 2010 boys varsity basketball Holiday Tournament is set for Monday and Wednesday at Poland Seminary High School.

Monday at 6 p.m., Fitch will face Canfield, followed by Boardman against Poland at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday’s games start at 6 p.m. with Canfield versus Boardman, followed by Fitch against Poland at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students. No Poland activity passes will be accepted at the gate.

Bulldogs defeat Eagles in overtime

The PMS eighth-grade girls basketball team defeated Hubbard in overtime 22-16 on Dec. 13.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Aleah Hughes and Cassie Herdman.

Herdman hit two clutch free throws to put the game into overtime. The girls held Hubbard to one point in overtime and earned the win.

Poland wins against Austintown Red

The Poland Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team defeated Austintown Red 46-21 Dec. 16. Aleah Hughes led the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Guerrieri/Nuzzo tie with Scheriches

The team of Sandy Guerrieri and Joe Nuzzo tied with Monica and Rich Scherich at the conclusion of the 2010 Youngstown Senior Mixed Doubles bowling tournament held at West Side Lanes.

Both Guerrieri/Nuzzo and Scherich/Scherich rolled 1,359.

The next Youngstown Senior Tournament will be Senior Singles on Jan. 8-9 @ Amron & Boardman.
