Judge Kontos elected 2011 judges president

Judge Peter J. Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court has been elected president of the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association for 2011.
Kontos, of Warren, has been a common-pleas judge since 1996, beginning his third six-year term in 2009.
He is among nine judges elected to leadership positions at the judges’ winter conference earlier this month. The others are from Hancock, Scioto, Darke, Franklin, Licking, Wayne, Champaign and Butler counties.
The common-pleas judges association’s membership includes all general-division judges of the state’s common- pleas courts, and its mission is “to improve the law, the legal system and the effective administration of justice.”
Christmas dinner

The 18th annual Christmas dinner sponsored by The Youngstown Community Food Center Inc. and Gleaners Food Bank will be Christmas Day at St. Patrick Church Hall, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., from noon to 1 p.m.
A complete traditional holiday meal will be served. Toys will be given to children, flowers to the elderly, and clothing, cookies, candy and fruit baskets to all.
Delaquila resigns
HOWLAND
Sam Delaquila, Howland Township fiscal officer for the past 22 years, has resigned, effective Jan. 1, for health reasons.
Township trustees accepted his resignation Monday and appointed Robert Costello to complete the remainder of Delaquila’s unexpired term, which runs through March 31, 2012.
Costello is a retired state auditor who audited Howland’s books for many years, which means there will be a smooth transition between Delaquila and Costello, said Trustee Rick Clark.
Woman burned
new castle, pa.
The fire department pulled three people to safety during an early-morning house fire Thursday. The department said two men were pulled from a porch roof, and a woman was pulled from inside the door of a duplex at 516 Pearson St. The fire started at 1:30 a.m.
The woman, Denise Bradley, a tenant in the duplex, was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was listed in critical condition Thursday night. The two men were not injured, the department said.
The owner of the duplex and her two children escaped unharmed from their apartment, the department said.
Three firefighters were slightly injured. Two hurt their backs, and one hurt his ankle.
The house was destroyed and had to be torn down, the department said.
The city fire marshal is investigating.
Arrested after chase
YOUNGSTOWN
Police said Keith Brooks, 48, of Hudson Avenue led officers on a car-and-foot chase before he was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a stolen car.
An officer spotted a stolen 2005 Pontiac Grand Am heading north on Hillman Street and tried to stop it around 11:50 a.m. The vehicle sped up, then the driver jumped out and fled on foot through yards. Police followed the footprints in the snow to a West Ravenwood Avenue home, where Brooks was found in the bedroom.
He is charged with driving under suspension, obstructing official business and receiving stolen property.
His shoes were taken as evidence to match with the shoe prints in the show.
