Youth wrestling season begins

The youth wrestling season began Dec. 4 at Canfield Middle School.

More than 350 kids in grades six and and under from 11 local wrestling clubs competed in the first meet of the seven-week season.

The kids compete in two matches every weekend in December and January (with the exception of Dec. 26). Wrestling begins at noon with the second session at 2:30.

The teams competing are Canfield, Boardman, South Range, Salem, United, Crestview, Columbiana, Beaver Local, Wellsville, West Branch and Alliance.

Canfield hockey team falls 5-2

The Canfield High hockey team (0-7, 0-3) rallied from a 3-0 deficit, but fell short, suffering a 5-2 loss to Midview Saturday in Greater Cleveland High School hockey league action.

The Cards trailed 3-0 after the first five minutes of the game and never recovered.

Roger Geiser was strong in the net, stopping the last 33 of 35 Midview shots.

Joe Geiser got the Cards on the board with an unassisted short-handed goal in the third period and Ryan O’Hara scored Canfield’s other goal off an assist from Riley Emery.

Girls varsity basketball game rescheduled

The Canfield at Canton McKinley girls’ basketball game originally scheduled for Dec. 6 has been rescheduled for Jan. 26.

The junior varsity contest will tip at 6 p.m. and the varsity game will follow.
