Memory Walk to be in park

BOARDMAN

Residents of Mahoning Country are invited to participate in an annual Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk Oct. 9 in Boardman Township Park. Check-in will be at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9:30.

Funds raised at the event will provide support services to 20,000 residents of the tri-county area who are living with Alzheimer’s, and will also fund critically needed research.

In addition to the one-mile walk, participants will hear inspiring messages from participating families including JoAnn and Barry Claycomb, this year’s honorees. There also will be entertainment, pumpkin painting for children and raffles.

Officers elected at Cory reunion

EAST PALESTINE

Officers for 2011 were elected during the 101st Western PA Area Cory Reunion Aug. 8 at East Palestine City Park. Serving will be Gary Lisica of Prospect, Pa., president; Gary Lisica of Stoneboro, Pa. and Diana Maye of Akron, secretary/treasurer. Sally Lumley of Columbiana, will publish the next newsletter.

A bell, brought home by Elnathan Cory, a 1759-1838 veteran of the American Revolution, was rung by Jim Lisica to start the business meeting.

Attending for the first time were Charlotte Capinger of Rochester, Pa., and Wilma and Jane McCullough of Beaver Falls, Pa., descendants of Elnathan Cory Jr.

Ruth Sanders, Eleanor Gianvito and Diana Maye served as the table committee.

Upkeep of cemetery planned at reunion

Edinburg, Pa.

Descendants and friends of John Whiting met recently at Mahoning Valley Grange in Edinburg for a reunion. After a picnic lunch, a meeting was conducted by Michonda Whiting Weber and Robert Waddington.

David Whiting, who reported on the condition of the cemetery, was reappointed to the cemetery committee along with Adam Whiting and Waddington.

The family genealogy was updated. Honored were Helen Jane Jacobson and James Martin, the eldest descendants and Maelee Whiting and Maverick Whiting, the youngest descendants at the event. Dave Whiting had the most grandchildren at the reunion.

Games for the children were conducted by Julie Whiting and Elizabeth Spitale.

Serving as officers for 2011 will be Duke Whiting, president; Maggie Whiting, vice president; Kay Seamans, treasurer; and Waddington, secretary. The next reunion was planned for 1 p.m. Aug. 7, 2011, at the Pulaski home of Shawn and Amanda Huston.
