The last stage of the renovation of the Columbiana County Courthouse is starting.

Penny Traina, president of the commissioners, said that upgrades will be made in the men’s restrooms in the basement and on the second floor.

The project is expected to cost about $129,000 in U.S. Department of Agriculture funding, which has funded many of the county renovations in recent years.

“They’re great to work with,” Traina said of the agriculture department.

Common-pleas court Judge C. Ashley Pike and former Judge David Tobin started the overhaul when they had their courtrooms renovated and equipped with modern technology at a cost of about $3.5 million.

Traina said that when she was elected, she wanted to continue those efforts to renovate and modernize the courthouse.

The men’s restrooms are tiled in a style that doesn’t fit with the look of the courthouse, and the fixtures are old or worn out. The new facilities will use less water.

Commissioner Jim Hoppel, who is in charge of county buildings, could not be reached to comment.
