Sharonline reunion
The 2010 Sharonline Reunion Weekend begins today and continues through Sunday.
The Sharonline gets its name from a streetcar line that ran from Youngstown to Sharon, Pa., until 1939. People who grew up in the neighborhoods surrounding Jacobs Road on the Youngstown’s East Side and who live in the McGuffey Heights area regularly attend.
There is a dinner-dance at 6 p.m. today at the Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St., Girard. Tickets are $40.
On Saturday, there will be a parade and a picnic. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road, and ends at Bailey Park, at Miltonia and Knapp avenues, where the daylong picnic takes place.
On Sunday, there will be a worship service at 11 a.m. at Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church, 2045 Jacobs.
Vote on union pact
Canfield
The board of trustees is meeting to vote on the township employees’ union contract. A special meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Canfield Township Hall, 21 S. Broad St., where the township trustees will vote on the contract for Teamsters Local 377. They also will discuss any other matters that come before the board at that time.
Pricey state races

The former congressman seeking to unseat Ohio’s governor had a slight advantage during the latest fundraising period, picking up $2.2 million in contributions to Gov. Ted Strickland’s $2 million.
Filings Wednesday for the period from June 12 to July 31 show Republican challenger John Kasich has almost $8 million in the bank, compared with $9.7 million for Democrat Strickland. If donations continue at such a pace, the campaign is positioned to be more expensive than the record-breaking 2006 governor’s contest. That year, about $26 million was raised.
The race for state attorney general is also shaping up to be expensive. Democratic incumbent Richard Cordray reports $3.5 million in the bank, and Republican Mike DeWine raised more than $900,000 for the period to end with $2.1 million on hand.
Traffic restricted
YOUNGSTOWN
The collapse of a sewer line that’s at least 100 years old will restrict traffic to one lane in each direction on Rayen Avenue near Fifth Avenue for about a week, said Charles Shasho, the city’s deputy director of public works. Heavy rain likely caused the 36-inch brick sewer line to fall apart early Thursday and create a 5-foot-deep hole, Shasho said.
Senior fair Saturday
CANFIELD
Sheriff Randall Wellington’s Senior Services Program will sponsor the second annual Mahoning County Senior Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Community Church, 6512 Kirk Road.
Anyone under 60 must be accompanied to the free event by a senior citizen. There will be free bingo, prizes, food and beverages, and musical entertainment by Take II. Annual book sale
WARREN
The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, will be closed for regular business Saturday to accommodate the annual Friends of the Warren Library book sale.
Branch libraries normally open Saturday (Brookfield, Cortland, Howland and Liberty) will remain open. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the main library. For more information, call 330-399-8807, ext. 128.
