W.Pa. company gets Flight 93 landscaping pact

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania firm has been picked to landscape the Flight 93 National Memorial.

Wallace & Pancher, Inc., of Hermitage, Pa., will plant flowers, trees and shrubs on the site where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Forty passengers and crew were killed when the plane crashed after passengers fought for control of the plane with four hijackers.

The memorial will include an amphitheater overlooking the crash site near Shanksville, about 65 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Neil Hosick, the company’s assistant construction manager, says the interior of the circular crash site will be planted with native species so it will look like a meadow. The company expects to start work in June.
