NEWTON FALLS
A 22-year-old Canfield man and his 41-year-old mother pleaded innocent in Newton Falls Municipal Court to breaking and entering.
Newton Falls police arrested them Monday in connection with the theft of a generator from a house on Newton Falls Bailey Road in Newton Township.
Andrew D. McCourt and his mother, Laurie C. McCourt, of 6336 Elk Road, were arrested after a man called police saying that two people in a pickup truck were leaving his property with his gas-powered generator and had nearly run him over when he tried to stop them.
Newton Falls police stopped the vehicle on Newton Falls Tomlinson Road and arrested the pair.
Andrew McCourt told police he had purchased the generator from someone named “Kenny” for $200 and was told to pick it up at the house on Newton Falls Bailey Road.
Police contacted “Kenny” and were advised that “Kenny” had hired Andrew McCourt to paint the victim’s barn but did not give him permission to remove the generator.
The McCourts return to court at 9:30 a.m. May 11. If convicted, each faces up to 18 months in prison on the fourth-degree felony.
