Some want Ohio to also have tough immigration law
COLUMBUS (AP) — A state lawmaker and an Ohio sheriff known for his tough stance against illegal immigrants say Ohio needs an immigration law like Arizona’s.
But Gov. Ted Strickland says if a bill reaches his desk, he’ll veto it.
In letters sent this week to Strickland and legislative leaders, Republican state Rep. Courtney Combs of Hamilton and Butler County Sheriff Rick Jones say illegal immigrants are destroying employment opportunities in Ohio.
The governor responds it would not be wise for Ohio to have something similar to the new Arizona law, which requires law enforcement officers to question people if there’s any suspicion about their immigration status.
Strickland said Wednesday that Ohio is not experiencing the “difficulties” Arizona seems to be experiencing.
