Tire-recycling drive

YOUNGSTOWN

The tire-recycling drive sponsored by Youngstown Litter Control and Recycling originally set for Saturday at the Covelli Centre has been rescheduled to May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Passenger and some commercial-sized tires, with or without rims, will be accepted.

Some fees may apply, so contact the litter control office at (330) 744-7526 or go to the Web site at www.cityofyoungstownoh.com for more information.

Hearing waived

The man accused of shooting another man earlier this month on Mill Creek Boulevard has opted to have his case go to the Mahoning County grand jury.

Casimiro Ellis, 29, of East Avondale Avenue, Youngstown, is charged with attempted murder in the April 14 shooting of Allyn Grant.

Ellis was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Mahoning County Court. He waived that hearing, and the case will go to the grand jury.

Driver hospitalized

CORTLAND

Kristen L. Siebenaller, 19, of Cadwallader-Sonk Road, Fow-ler Township, was taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center early Tuesday after she was involved in a single-car accident on state Route 305 just east of Southdale Boulevard.

Cortland police said her car was eastbound and failed to navigate a curve, crossed the center lane, hit a ditch, went airborne and hit a tree about 12:45 a.m.

Siebenaller was in the intensive-care unit Tuesday afternoon. The hospital does not give out condition reports, a spokesperson said.

Police said her injuries were incapacitating.

New panel chairman

McDONALD

The State Finance and Planning Commission for McDonald Local Schools has a new chairman, Roger Nehls, who replaces Jackie Osborne, representing the state superintendent’s office.

Nehls also is chairman of the Youngstown City School District’s state commission.

Osborne was replaced because she was traveling four hours each way to attend commission meetings.

Nehls lives near Sandusky and chaired the commission’s meeting Monday.

Library celebration

POLAND

Friends of the Poland Library will have a celebration of the library’s presence in the village for 75 years at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The first Poland Library was dedicated May 1, 1935.

Refreshments will be served at the library branch, 311 S. Main St.

The Trumbull County Republican Party will have its monthly breakfast meeting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Community Room at Eastwood Mall, near the Trumbull County Republican Party headquarters.

Guest speakers will include candidates running for office in the May primary.
