Robbers respond to Craigslist ad, steal thousands
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say robbers who knocked on an elderly Philadelphia man’s door under the guise of shopping for a car attacked the man and stole thousands of dollars.
Authorities say two men went to the man’s home in the Gray’s Ferry neighborhood Tuesday afternoon pretending to respond to a Craigslist ad about a sports utility vehicle for sale.
Investigators say the men took the car for a drive and made an offer. Once inside the house, a third man stormed in and attacked the victim.
Police say the men tied up a 39-year-old woman who was at the house and emptied a safe. Police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore says the robbers made off with more than $9,000.
Vanore says the man suffered a bloody lip and swollen face. The woman was unharmed.
