Lions show appreciation for veterans at convention

Lions Clubs of District 13-D met at the Clarion Inn in Hudson April 9-11 for their annual convention.

Many in attendance wore military attire in keeping with the convention’s theme of appreciation of all veterans.

On the agenda was the election of officers, with the following named to various posts: Jeff Snyder of Magnolia Lions, district governor; David Gauch of Crestwood Lions, first vice-district governor; and John Woodside of Jackson Township Lions, second vice-district governor.

Also elected were: Rick Albrecht of Lordstown Lions, state finance and planning committee; Tim McDermott of Crestwood Lions, Ohio Eye Research Foundation; and Dee Palmer of Brimfield Lions, Ohio Lions Foundation. They will assume their duties July 1.

The guest speaker at the April 10 luncheon was Daniel Cooper, retired vice admiral, who served as undersecretary for benefits in the Department of Veterans Affairs. Speaker for the banquet April 11 was David Stouffer of Washington, Iowa, past international director, who was accompanied by his wife, Rachel Nicola, past district governor.

Hosts for the convention were Paul Metrovich, past council chair, and is wife, Linda Metrovich, Lion member. The current district governor is Donald Heldman of East Liverpool Lions.

Lions members and delegates from 58 Lions clubs in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, Portage and Stark counties attended the convention.
