A man shot inside the doorway of his South Side home last week has died.

Vindicator news partner WFMJ TV 21 reported that Elye Dawson, 18, of West Myrtle Avenue, has died.

If ruled a homicide, it would be 12th in Youngstown this year. There were nine homicides in the city at this time last year and 23 total in 2009.

A police report said that someone knocked on the door of the West Myrtle home where Dawson lived with his family about 9:30 p.m. April 22. The man asked for Dawson, and Dawson’s 10-year-old sister called for him to come downstairs.

When Dawson opened the door to see who was there, he was shot multiple times in the throat.

People inside of the home said they heard at least four shots before Dawson fell to the floor, bleeding from the throat and moaning in pain.

He was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center and later died. Police are continuing their investigation.
