Yankee Lake Ballroom will host a 17-bout cage fight amateur mixed martial arts event tonight, including a 170-pound title match pitting Micheal “Taco” Cardona against Alvin Worrels.

Many local contestants, including John Millerleile, Luke Yoham, Shawn King, John Whitten, Mike Wiseman, Jesse Bogden, Levi Hively, Gary Taylor, Donnie Cameron and Dustin Carter will compete.

Tickets are $25. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the first fight at 7:30.

Lyell returns to action

Billy Lyell will fight on a professional boxing card at the Morgantown Event Center on May 7.

A middleweight, Lyell has a 21-8 record with five knockouts.

Tizway wins Big A feature race Friday

NEW YORK

Tizway kicked off his season with a win, beating Half Metal Jacket by 23/4 lengths Friday in the $46,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct.

Rajiv Maragh was aboard for trainer H. James Bond as the 5-year-old got his fourth win in 13 starts. The time was 1:22.44 for the seven furlongs on the fast track.

Tizway paid $6.20, $3.40 and $2.60. Half Metal Jacket rallied for second, returning $3.40 and $2.60. Roaring Lion held on for third, earning $2.10.

Making his first start since finishing 12th in the Japan Cup in December, Tizway pressed the pace set by Roaring Lion.

Portugal’s Benfica to play at Revolution

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.

Portugal’s Benfica will play a postseason exhibition at Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution on May 19.

The 32-time Portuguese League champions have a six-point lead with three games left.

Benfica’s roster includes Portugal’s Carlos Martins, David Luis, Quim and Nuno Gomes; and Argentina’s Aimar and Javier Saviola. However, players with national teams preparing for the World Cup will miss the exhibition, which was announced Friday.

AC Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Legia Warsaw and Red Star Belgrade also have announced postseason U.S. tours.

Bode Miller says future hinges on US team

NEW YORK

Bode Miller says what he hears from the U.S. Ski Team will play a big role as he decides whether to retire.

Miller is fresh off winning gold, silver and bronze at the Vancouver Olympics. He says Friday that he will not decide his future until the team’s preseason camp in August.

The 32-year-old Miller says many of the issues that prompted him start his own team two years ago hadn’t changed when he returned to the U.S. team.

Bolt’s ready to run, have fun at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA

Usain Bolt plans on taking it easy this year.

The 100 and 200 Olympic and world champion says he wants to expend as little energy as possible this year: “Because next year we’re going to be very serious. Next year won’t be the same.”

Bolt spoke Friday at a news conference for the Penn Relays. He’ll run in the Jamaican 4x100 relay this afternoon as part of the USA vs. the World competition.

The Penn Relays are nothing new for the 23-year-old Jamaican, who competed at Franklin Field every year from 2001-05.

Tottenham to play at San Jose on July 17

SAN JOSE, Calif.

Tottenham of England’s Premier League will play a preseason exhibition at Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes on June 17.

Tottenham and San Jose signed a partnership agreement two years ago. The game announced Thursday will be the first time the Earthquakes host a Premier League club since a 1-1 tie against Aston Villa in 1997.
