Seventh and eighth-graders moving on are McKenna Wininger, Tara Childs, Alia Yossef, Anthony Ricciardi, Michael Angiolelli, Beth Zeno, Mackenzie Beck, Liborio Ricotilli, Maddie Leek, Melissa Eperjesi, Kaylee Kinkela, Hallie Yerian, John Brennan, Carly Berlon, and Francesca Strollo.

ā€œIā€™m very proud of them; they worked hard,ā€ said Linda Taylor, eighth-grade teacher at Holy Family School since 1984. Participation in History Day projects is voluntary for students.

Youngstown State assigns a theme, and Taylor offers an introduction to the students in October, with work on the projects taking place at home.

According Taylor, 40 students from Holy Family chose to take part in the competition this year.

There will be 600 entries in the state competition and 50 students will then be selected to participate in National History Day June 13-17 at the University of Maryland.
