ABC Water and Storm Water District trustees have canceled today’s regular meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. at Boardman Township Government Center, 8299 Market St.

The next meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 27 at the government center.

Man fatally shot

A man was shot to death in the city Wednesday morning.

Police discovered his body in the rear of a North Lane Avenue home on the East Side, a report says.

The report describes the man as 30 years old but says there was no identification on him.

He was lying face down on the ground. He’d been shot multiple times, and police found 15 spent 9mm shell casings nearby.

Witnesses reported hearing shots, but no one saw the shooting, police reported.

Under house arrest

A Mahoning County deputy sheriff is on electronically monitored house arrest after arraignment on a domestic- violence charge, and he remains on paid administrative leave from his job pending an internal-affairs investigation.

Willie Harris, 30, of South Schenley Avenue, a deputy since January 2001, was arrested and jailed after the reported assault Saturday against his wife, Lakleesha.

He was arraigned Wednesday morning before Judge Robert Douglas, and he’s scheduled for a pretrial hearing on the first-degree misdemeanor charge May 12 before Judge Robert Milich.

No virus after all

YOUNGSTOWN

It turns out that Youngstown State University’s computer network wasn’t under attack from a virus or anything else Wednesday.

The problem was caused by an automatic safety update by McAfee anti-virus software that falsely detected a virus, said Ron Cole, YSU spokesman. There were reports of similar events at universities around the country.

Cole said the problem was corrected Wednesday afternoon.

Transition Fair

YOUNGSTOWN

Choffin Career & Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St., will host a Transition Fair for special-education students and parents in the Youngstown School District.

The event will be in the main commons Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. for East High students, 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. for Chaney High students and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for Choffin students. More than 30 vendors will offer displays with information on two- and four-year colleges, career-technical training, employment, transportation and more.

Vigil for victims

YOUNGSTOWN

A candlelight vigil will be at noon Friday in the Mahoning County Courthouse rotunda, 120 Market St., in observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

The observance is sponsored by the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office and its victim-witness division and the Help Hotline crisis center.

Poetry program

LIBERTY

William Greenway, award-winning author of nine collections of poems and a Youngstown State University professor, will talk about writing poetry and will read some of his poems at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Branch Library, 415 Church Hill- Hubbard Road.
