GOP wants Ohio Supreme Court building renamed after late chief justice
COLUMBUS (AP) — Some state Senate Republicans want an honor for Ohio’s late Chief Justice Thomas Moyer and want a change that would have affected how his replacement was picked.
A GOP proposal urges the Ohio Supreme Court justices to name their building after Moyer, who died unexpectedly this month at age 70.
Any renaming would be up to the justices. The court’s spokesman says there have been no formal talks about the idea, also supported by Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland.
The bill also would make judicial changes, such as requiring the governor to consider recommendations from a commission before making judicial appointments.
Strickland did not do so before choosing Democratic chief justice candidate Eric Brown as Republican Moyer’s interim replacement.
