Champion defeats Girard, 4-3, in AAC contest


GIRARD

Lindsey Swipas, Alison Sorber, Sierra Blackson and Taylor Petersal had RBIs to lead Champion over Girard, 4-3, in an All-American Conference softball game Wednesday.

The Flashes improved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the AAC Blue Tier.

Sorber doubled and winning pitcher Morgan White (5-0) tossed a three-hitter.

For the Indians (13-6, 4-1), Nikki Mazella hit a two-run double and Melissa Weitzman had a RBI single.

Canfield 10, Fitch 0

AUSTINTOWN

Carlee Hart pitched a shutout as the Cardinals (9-6) were able to soar past the Falcons (5-5).

Carly Ortz had two of the Falcons’ five hits.

Poland 14, Beaver Local 2

LISBON

Emily Chandler hit two doubles, scored a run and drove in a run for the Bulldogs (12-1, 4-0 AAC Red).

Nicole White’s two hits included a double. She scored three runs and drove in three.

Jessica D’Apolito’s three hits drove in three runs.

Adriana Sykora had two hits while winning pitcher Jenna Modic (4-1) struck out 10 and walked one.

For Beaver Local, Ashley Lianni had two hits.

Struthers 4, Lakeview 0

CORTLAND

Mandy Ditman had a double and a pair of RBIs, and Katie Jordan homered as the Wildcats shut out the Bulldogs.

Ashley Baron (12-1) scattered four hits.

Haley Ball had a double and Jamie Sentner two hits for Lakeview.

Boardman 15, Akron Springfield 0

AKRON

Alex DiDomenico homered and drove in eight runs for the Spartans (7-2).

Erin Schafer had four hits and Sarah Maxwell three while DiDomenico, Jamie Massaro, Brooke Meenachan and Danielle Petrus all doubled.

For Springfield (6-8), Samantha Frye doubled.

Niles 4, Howland 3

HOWLAND

Lindsay Bates had two hits to lead Niles to a come-from-behind victory.

Aubrey Hale (6-0) was the winning pitcher, striking out four in four innings, as the Red Dragons (14-3, 2-2 AAC Red) scored once in the fifth inning, twice in the sixth and once more in the seventh.

Howland (3-10) was led by Erika Notes with two hits, including a triple, and Samantha Jaques, with a pair of singles.

Western Reserve 8, Jackson-Milton 1

NORTH JACKSON

Ashlee Grim picked up her ninth win of the season with a four-hit performance against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Grim had four strikeouts and Heather Monoski had four of the team’s 14 hits. Cassie Burchett had a home run, a triple and two RBIs. Pitcher Lindsey Knipp (5-5) got the loss, but had the team’s only RBI.
