Former sex-crimes sergeant charged in sex assault

BENSALEM, Pa. (AP) — A former sergeant who headed a suburban Philadelphia police department’s sex crimes unit is accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside a township building.

Forty-one-year-old Michael Marren was arraigned Monday on charges he sexually assaulted a woman last month inside the Bensalem Rescue Squad’s headquarters.

Police say, Marren, a part-time medic, followed her into a restroom and assaulted her after a night of drinking. They say the woman was found curled up and crying in a closet following the assault.

Court documents say Marren told investigators he rebuffed the woman’s advances.

Marren was fired from the Bensalem Police Department late last month. A phone message left with Marren’s attorney early Tuesday was not immediately returned.
