Ex-officer charged

YOUNGSTOWN

A former Youngstown and Hubbard Township police officer faces felony charges in Naples, Fla., of lewd or lascivious battery and official misconduct.

Chuck Bullock, 51, a Collier County deputy sheriff, was charged Monday after Naples police said he engaged in on-duty sexual activity with a 15-year-old boy in a mall bathroom in the Florida city Feb. 17, according to NaplesNews.com, the Web site of the Naples Daily News. Bullock was fired Monday, the day of his arrest.

Bullock started in law enforcement in 1991 with the Hubbard Township police, serving until 1993, when he was hired by the Youngstown Police Department, according to NaplesNews.com. Bullock worked in Youngstown for about three years before relocating to Florida.

Police probe shooting

Police are looking for a 23-year-old Youngstown man suspected of shooting a 25-year-old Youngstown man during an argument on the city’s North Side.

Police were called at 3:58 p.m. Monday for a shooting outside a Griffith Street apartment. When officers arrived, a 24-year-old man, who lives on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, said his friend, 25, of Lexington Avenue, had been shot and taken by another friend to the St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.

Officers interviewed the victim, who said he was in an argument with a 23-year-old Lauderdale Avenue man, according to a police report. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times, the report states. The report doesn’t say how many times or where on his body the victim was shot but states the injuries aren’t life-threatening. Officers found four spent .380-caliber shell casings outside the Griffith Street apartment.

Vehicle break-ins

Police are investigating break-ins of several vehicles where items were taken.

The 10 break-ins were reported Friday morning on Lynn Street, Annawan and Orlo lanes, Euclid Boulevard and Maple Avenue. Items stolen included loose change.

Infant’s death probed

Police are investigating the death of a 6-week-old boy.

The baby was found not breathing on a couch at 9:36 a.m. Friday at an apartment on Jean Street, a police report says.

When police arrived, the baby was still warm. A police officer tried to resuscitate him but could not, the report says.

An ambulance took the infant to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The Mahoning County coroner’s office also is investigating.

Volunteers to meet

YOUNGSTOWN

A volunteers meeting is scheduled for Thursday for anyone interested in helping with the Warriors Inc.’s 6th annual Unity in the Community Parade.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Hope Building, 2733 Market St.

The parade will be from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday. It will begin at Midlothian Boulevard and Market Street and will end at the Hope Building, where a minority-health family day will follow in the South Side Annex building parking lot. Information about health care will be available. There also will be live entertainment, dancing, a bounce-around, crafts, refreshments and more.

Barn fire

COITSVILLE

A fire caused major damage to a barn on North Hubbard Road. The fire started about 6 p.m. Monday.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.
