Miller tops at Senior Women


Mary L. Miller’s 660 was the top score in the 18th annual Senior Singles Tournament of the Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association which was held last month at Boardman Lanes.

Miller was competing in Class A for ages 70-76.

Mary Gibson’s 658 in Class D (55-59) was next highest, followed by 83-year-old Audrey Heineman’s 634 in Class AA (77-older).

Mary Johnson’s 632 topped Class C (60-64) and Linda Sopp’s 623 led Class B (65-69).

Winner Logistics Transportation Systems, Westside Pizza Joe’s and C-G Pro Shop were sponsors.

In addition to first-place money, divisional winners will receive an engraved plaque, a ticket to the awards banquet in October and a paid entry into the 19th senior tournament in 2011.

Also tops in their leagues

Tim Graham’s 805 topped Tri-County Classic bowlers at Holiday on April 6, Ron Zipay had 289-800 in Spiech Classic at Bell-Wick on April 5 and John Doughton’s 803 led Belchyk/Action Plumbing Classic, also at Holiday.

Eric Flugan and Frank Tomic had 299s in Hively’s Sportsman at Amron on April 12.

Tammy Diver’s 748 led Thursday Matchplay Ladies at Amron on April 8, when Julie Tufaro’s 709 was second-highest. However, Tufaro’s 289 single was best.

Brian Umstead’s 735 and John Dohar’s 702 were the top two scores in Boardman Businessmen on April 6. Umstead and Norm Dibkey had 256s. A week earlier, Umstead rolled 300-723.

Umstead coaches Boardman’s varsity boys bowling team and Dohar is an assistant girls coach.

Also at Boardman, Charles Lias’ 265-746 led Youngstown Steel-Mopar bowlers on April 1 — no fooling!

BJS Pro Shop of Ray Bakes, Bob Ziegler, Charles Brewer and Napoleon Hill was third 3rd winner at Amron, where the wild-card winner was the Game On team of Ted Bundy, Larry Stevens, Bill Moxley and Ron Lesko.

In Southern Tavern Mixed at Mahoning Valley Lanes, members of second-half champ Team #8 were Evette Drummond, Jermaine Kuhar, Dwight Boggs and Lenny Taylor.

Flowers and Alternatives won C&G Pro Shop/Wedgewood Ladies Trio with Lisa Pecorelli, Paula Pecorelli and Teri Haefke followed by the runner-up C&G Pro Shop team of Jennifer Sivak, Lauren Bachinger and Grace Sciarra.

The Window World league at Boardman had an exciting finish.

Prior to position night, Wedgewood Pizza was two games behind La-z-boy, but won three games to force a tie for the last 3rd of the season.

Wedgewood won a one-game roll-off, 1151 to 1112.

It also threw La-z-boy into a tie with Greenwood Chevy for the wild-card spot, both with 67 games for the year.

Greenwood won a one-game roll-off, 1062 to 1008. La-z-boy was forced to roll five games the last night of the season.

Members of the third 3rd-winning Wedgewood Pizza team were Rich Ellashek, Tom Timlin Sr., Tom Timlin Jr., Steve Sammartino, Billy Theis, Bob Lovell Jr., Tom Parker and Jerry Mariotti.

The wild-card winning Greenwood Chevy roster included Brian Shambaugh, Bob Beam, Frank Cuccarese, Steve Bosiljcic, Mike Cook, Tony Fusillo and Mike Cook Jr.
