Booster seat tips Proper use of child booster seats in automobiles


Advocates of booster seats urge use for children at least through age seven or until seat belt fits properly — lap belt laying across upper thighs and shoulder belt fitting across chest — usually when child is at least 4-foot-9 in height.

Back seat is safest place for booster seats.

Parents, caregivers should read booster seat instruction manuals to be sure they are installed correctly in vehicles.

Many fire departments offer free booster seat safety inspections.
