Hughes’ four goals lift Boardman past Irish

BOARDMAN — Heather Hughes scored all four goals to lead the Boardman High girls soccer team to a 4-0 win over Ursuline.

Cheyenne Khatib, Kayleigh Huck, Chelsea Billock and Hailey Dickey had assists for the Spartans (6-2).

Khatib, the goalie, had nine saves.

Ursuline goalie Anita Smith had 11 saves.

JVs: Boardman 3, Ursuline 0.

Canfield 4, Lakeview 1

CORTLAND — Gia Nigro and Audrey Smith each scored a goal and an assist, while Jenne Batagglia and Katie Siskowic each scored a goal to lead the Cardinals (4-0-4).

Paige Baker and Meredith Gleichert also had assists for the Cardinals, while Jackie Poldolsky and Kelly Fening combined to have six saves.

Ali Gagne scored the Bulldogs’ lone goal, assisted by Jen Ulam. Elaine Moldovan had 10 saves in goal.

JVs: Lakeview 4, Canfield 0.

Howland 5, Hubbard 0

HUBBARD — Gina Albani scored two goals to lead Howland (5-1-1).

Junior Alexis Vardavas and sophomore Lexi Dreier each scored their first varsity goals, and Gina Wall also scored for the Tigers, who held a 34-3 edge in shots..

Vardavas also had an assist, as did Amy Teringo, Olivia Nicholas, Erika Nites and Abby Keul. Reserve keeper Kristen James, playing the last 12 minutes, had Howland’s lone save.

Mariah Gordon had 11 saves for Hubbard (3-5-2), which trailed 1-0 at halftime.

JVs: Howland, 7-0.

Salem 5, Niles 3

SALEM — Hallie Hank scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Quakers, while Peyton Meals and Abi Pasco each added a goal. Allison Thompson had 11 saves for the Quiakers.

JVs: Niles 1, Salem 1.

Champion 1, Newton Falls 1

CHAMPION — Marissa Walker scored on an assist from Jessica Craley for the Golden Flashes (3-2-4, 1-0-2 All-American Conference Blue Tier). Goalkeeper Taylor Petersal made six saves.

For the Tigers (5-1-2, 2-0-1), Brooke Rogers scored on an assist from Rachel Ellis. Goalkeeper Rebecca Humberger made 16 saves.

JVs: Champion, 8-0.

Warren JFK 6, Kennedy Catholic 0

WARREN — Erin McBride scored four goals and Kelli Guarnieri added two for JFK (8-1-0).

Assisting were Jerrica Cooper and Caitlyn Rodomsky with two each and Lauren Rodomsky one.

Helena Democopoulas had two saves for JFK while Angela Balint had 22 for the Golden Eagles, (1-4).

Uniontown Lake 4, Mooney 1

UNIONTOWN — Amy Vinopal scored Mooney’s lone goal off a free kick.

Rachel Letscher had seven saves for the Cardinals (3-4-2).

Boys Crestview 6, United 5

COLUMBIANA — Justin Kleinecht had three goals and an assist to lead Crestview.

Jacob Mellinger had two goals and Alex DeSalvo one for the Rebels. Zack Moore had two assists, Tyler Ogle one and Derek Bable had 12 saves.

For United, Brett Albright had four goals and Cole Weikart one. Steve Baker and Kyle Widlica each added an assist and Shane Anderson had 15 saves.

South Range 12, Jackson-Milton 0

NORTH LIMA — Jordan Baker had three goals and Joe Beike two for the Raiders (6-2-1).

Joel Skidmore, Billy Ludt, Sam Cochenhour, Tyler Ausnehmer, Aaron Beabout, Andrew Humansky and Andrew Levitski each added one.

Justin Neimi had two assists.
