Teen admits to killing Ohio community activist

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio teenager has admitted to charges in the beating death of a Toledo community activist who also was robbed of his familiar bicycle.

Sixteen-year-old Dai’Lahntae Jemison on Tuesday admitted to juvenile counts of robbery and murder, similar to pleading guilty in adult court. Jemison was found delinquent by Lucas County Juvenile Court Judge Connie Zemmelman and could be locked up until he’s 21 when he’s sentenced on Sept. 29.

Robert Brundage, the 66-year-old victim, was often seen riding his bike to community meetings around Toledo. Authorities say he had just left a meeting about workers’ rights issues on June 22 when Jemison punched him and knocked him off his bicycle. Brundage fell into a coma and died two weeks later.
