Warren Harding gets win, misses playoffs


WARREN — Mike Dorsey scored two quick TDs and the the Warren Harding High football team rolled past Akron North 63-24 on Friday at Mollenkopf Stadium.

Demond Hymes had 13 carries for 173 yards and a TD for Harding (6-3-1), which was bounced from the playoffs due to wins by Boardman and Euclid. Miller threw for 133 yards and two TDs.

Romeo Jeffries carried eight times for 72 yards and one TD to lead North (3-7).

Marlington 35, West Branch 24

BELOIT — Alden Hill ran for 247 yards and four touchdowns to lead Marlington (8-2, 5-2 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) past the Warriors. This marks the first time in Clinton Heacock Stadium history that the Dukes were able to come out of Beloit with victory.

Hill and West Branch’s Mark Smith would battle back and forth in the first half scoring after one another, but Bo Beegle hit a 45-yard field goal to give the West Branch the lead at half.

Hill would start the second half much like the first, with a 76-yard run into the end zone. Mike Smith completed a 23-yard pass to put the Warriors back on top, but the Dukes’ running game was too much for West Branch (3-7, 2-5).

Dymonte Thomas would run in from 34 yards out, and Hill would finish what he started with a 1 yard run to put it away for the Dukes.

Crestwood 10, Southeast 9

RAVENNA — Crestwood kicked a 23-yard field goal with four seconds remaining to win the game.

Southeast had taken a 9-7 lead on Anthony Pennington’s 28-yard field with 6:59 to go in the game.

The Pirates (1-9, 1-6 Portage Trail Conference Metro) also scored on a 5-yard fumble return.

Noah Kainrad had 92 yards rushing on 16 carries for Southeast.

Crestwood finished with a 2-8 overall record and 2-5 in the PTC.

Yo. Christian 40, Pymatuning Valley 14

ANDOVER — John Pecchia completed 8 of 17 passes for 245 yards to pace the Eagles (6-4).

Pecchia threw two touchdown passes to Brian Richey that covered 40 and 30 yards then found Ryan Davenport and Erik French open for scoring heaves of 20 and 49 yards, respectively.

Pecchia also caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Victor Shaw.

Nick Marshall scored twice for the Lakers (2-8).

Southington 23, Lutheran East 6

SOUTHINGTON — The Wildcats (5-4) finished their season having won five of their last six games.

Details were not reported. Lutheran East is 2-8.

Ledgemont 33, Mathews 6

THOMPSON — Ledgemont improved to 6-4 while Mathews dropped to 0-10.

Details were not reported.

New Castle 42, Mohawk 0

BESSEMER, Pa. — New Castle was able to come out of Bessemer with a win, beating Mohawk (3-6) 42-0.

Justin Fleo carried the ball seven times for 112 yards, adding a 69-yard touchdown in the mix. Fleo also led all receivers with 42 yards in the air.

Also scoring for New Castle was Jordan Izzo on a 25-yard pass from Johnny Matarazzo, Keith Keene with runs of 8 and 9 yards respectively, Darrian Rice with a 46 yard run, and Jalen Holmes with a 37 yard run. New Castle clinches a berth in the Parkway-AAA playoffs.
