Salem earns first playoff berth
EAST LIVERPOOL — Trent Toothman completed 14 of 28 passes for 157 yards and three TDs to lead the Salem High football team to a 33-14 win over East Liverpool on Friday.
The Quakers (8-2) clinched their first playoff berth in school history.
Eric Bailey rushed 12 times for 91 yards and Austin Noel added nine carries for 57 yards for Salem. Ben Eisel caught eight passes for 109 yards and two TDs.
Mary Thompkinson carried 13 times for 63 yards and a TD for East Liverpool (4-6).
Lakeview 37, Champion 21
CHAMPION — Te Elias rushed for 166 yards on just seven carries, and scored on runs of 72 and 75 yards to lead playoff-bound Lakeview (7-3).
Desmond Vaughn added 63 yards and a touchdown, and Drew Bell also ran for a score as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 37-0 lead midway through the third period.
Travis Damron scored all three touchdowns for the Golden Flashes (1-9). Damron had 161 yards on 26 carries.
Newton Falls 35 Grand Valley 21
NEWTON FALLS — Anthony Kline rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns, the final one a 76-yard gallop that clinched the victory over Grand Valley.
Kline also scored on a 66-yard run in the third quarter, while quarterback Matt Brazin threw two touchdown passes, one to Brian Moser and the other to Cody Dillon. The Tigers (7-3), who finished with 345 yards rushing, also got 135 yards from John Davis.
Mitchell Lake led Grand Valley with two touchdown receptions, while hauling in 11 passes for 162 yards.
Beaver Local 35, Brookfield 7
LISBON — Rickey May rushed 17 times for 73 yards and a TD to lead Beaver Local (1-9), which avoided a winless season.
Evan Schneider completed 14 of 19 passes for 170 yards and a TD as Beaver Local scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Joe Kirila carried 18 times for 76 yards for Brookfield (1-9), while Cameron Derr caught a 20-yard TD pass from Brandon Mosora.
