Western Reserve topples Mathews in four
LISBON — Claire Ferrando had seven points, 31 assists and 10 kills and Victoria Brown added eight points, 11 kills and four blocks to lead the second-seeded Western Reserve High volleyball team past top-seeded Mathews 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-23 in Thursday’s Division IV district championship at Lisbon High School.
Heather Manoski had 18 kills and Hannah Shradee had four blocks and three aces for the Blue Devils (23-2), who advanced to next Thursday’s regional semifinal at 6 p.m. at Twinsburg High School. The winner will play at 2 p.m. Saturday for the district title.
Top players for the Mustangs (22-3) were: Kayla Manz with 19 points, one ace and 28 assists; Megan O’Dell with 12 points, 16 kills and six blocks; Brooke Pregibon with 12 points, 10 kills and 22 digs; Jessie Gearhart with four blocks and one ace and Jonna Omerzo with 35 digs and one ace.
