Giveaways planned for grand opening

CORNERSBURG — A grand-opening event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the recently opened Dollar General at 3265 Canfield Road.

The first 50 shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways.

The Tennessee-based chain operates more than 8,500 stores in 35 states.

Farmers National reports third-quarter earnings

CANFIELD — Farmers National Banc Corp. earned $1.56 million, or 12 cents a share, in the third quarter, compared with $999,000, or 8 cents a share, in the same quarter last year.

Frank Paden, company president and chief executive, said last quarter’s results stemmed from 15 percent growth in commercial and retail lending and a 15 percent growth in deposits.

Despite the increased earnings, the bank set aside more money to cover loan losses. Last quarter, the bank provided $1.56 million to cover loan losses, compared with $300,000 in the same quarter last year. As of Sept. 30, nonperforming loans were $12.64 million, or about 2 percent of total loans, compared with $3.09 million a year earlier.
