Western, Pa. woman sentenced to life imprisonment for killing husband

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for fatally shooting her husband while he slept.

Barbra Ann Peck, 43, of Emworth, was sentenced Tuesday in Allegheny County Court. A jury convicted her in August of shooting 42-year-old Russell Peck in the head on Sept. 15, 2006.

Peck then fled to the home of friends near Coudersport, and police were called after she overdosed on prescription medication.

Peck told police she waited for her husband to fall asleep before loading a pistol and shooting him. Police say the couple had marital problems.

Peck told Judge John Reilly she was sorry.
