VETERANS

Marine chapel dedicated

TRIANGLE, Va. — The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation dedicated the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel at the National Museum of the Marine Corps here Thursday.

Highlights of the ceremony included a Navy bell-ringing ceremony with students of the Marine Corps University and the playing of taps by a Marine Corps Band bugler followed by a 21-gun salute.

Navy Rear Admiral Mark L. Tidd, chaplain of the Marines, provided the benediction.

A ribbon-cutting officially opened the chapel to the public.

Other ceremony speakers included Under Secretary of the Navy Robert Work, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Conway and Marine Capt. and businessman Timothy Day and his wife, Sandy.

The Days, of Phoenix, Ariz., along with the Timothy Day Foundation, donated $5 million to construct the chapel.

DEPLOYED

On duty in England

Air Force Senior Airman Adam E. Demesko has arrived for duty at RAF Lakenheath, England. Demesko, a command post controller, is assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing.

He is the son of Ron and Barb Demesko of Youngstown. His wife, Lisa, is the daughter of Joyce Lewis of Niles. He is a 1999 graduate of Youngstown Ursuline High School.

Operation Iraqi Freedom

Army National Guard Pfc. Scott M. Houck and Spec. Jonathan C. Neal have been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Houck, a signal support- systems specialist, is normally assigned to the 585th Military Police Company, Marysville, Ohio.

He is the son of Ted Houck and Kelly Houck, both of Columbiana, and graduated in 2005 from Columbiana High School and received an associate degree in 2007 from ITT Technical Institute, Youngstown.

Neal, military police member normally assigned to the 585th Military Police Company, Marysville, is the son of Amber Thompson of East Palestine and graduated in 2007 from East Palestine High School.

Naval nuclear power

YOUNGSTOWN — Navy Petty Officers 3rd Class Joseph Hutter and Kyle A. Schriner have completed the Naval Nuclear Power Training Pipeline course at Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y.

Hutter, son of Lisa K. Hutter of Salem, is a 2007 graduate of Hubbard High School.

Schriner, son of Joseph B. Schriner of Austintown, is a 2007 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.

Leader development

Kelly R. Davis, Ian J. Beil and Michael A. Kachelries have graduated from the 32-day Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis, Wash.

Davis, a student at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., is the granddaughter of Geraldine and Stephen Bennefield of Farrell, Pa. She is a 2004 graduate of Farrell High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2007 from Tennessee State University, Nashville.

Beil, a student at Ohio State University, Columbus, is the son of Patrick J. and Patricia H. Beil of Canfield, and is a 2006 graduate of Canfield High School.

Kachelries, a student at Youngstown State University, is the son of Sophie E. and stepson of Tom E. Davis of Austintown. His wife, Chelsea, is the daughter of Pamela J. Concannor of Youngstown. He is a 2005 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School.
