Troop 25 announces 160th Eagle award

Troop 25, Boy Scouts of America, chartered to Canfield United Methodist Church, announced its 160th Eagle Scout, Gene Wollet, son of Bill and Kerri Wollet of Canfield.

The court-of-honor ceremony took place earlier this month. Scoutmaster is Kevin Prus Sr.

Gene joined the troop in 2003 and has had troop positions of junior assistant scoutmaster, senior patrol leader, patrol leader and quartermaster.

He earned 22 merit badges and these Scout awards: fifth-year Seven Ranges Pipestone Award and third-year Heritage Award.

He also earned the troop award of Bob Roberts Memorial Backpatch with four points. He attended the Tinnerman Canoe Trip in 2006 and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2007.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated, gathered materials and supervised the construction of three marble bowling alleys to enhance the children’s therapy at the Easter Seal Society of Youngstown.

It benefits the children by letting them practice their motor skills and ability to move.

The toys are also used to stimulate communication between the therapists and the children and are especially beneficial to children in wheelchairs.

The toys come apart into two pieces, which enables them to be used in various classrooms and moved when needed. Baird Bros. Sawmill in Canfield donated the lumber for the project.

Gene is a senior at Canfield High School, where he is on the varsity basketball team and is senior class representative on student council.

He also is a member of St. Paul Church of Salem.
