Durina’s golden goal leads Fitch past Howland in OT


HOWLAND — Emily Durina scored off a corner kick from Tori Koch with 3:23 left in the first overtime to lift the Fitch High girls soccer team to a 1-0 win over Howland in a Division I sectional final at Howland High School.

Ali Tolich had eight saves for the Falcons (12-4-2), who will host Canfield in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Monday.

Erika Nites had three saves for Howland (11-4-2).

Canfield 1, Green 0

CANFIELD — Meredith Gleichart scored on an assist from Audrey Smith to lift Canfield.

Kelly Fening and Jackie Podolsky each had three saves for the Cardinals.

Mackenzie Callahan had four saves for Green.

Poland 4, Lake 0

POLAND — Kelsey Malenic scored two goals while Jordan Palumbo and Samantha Susich had the others for the Bulldogs. Tatum Marucci had three assists and Vivien Clayton one while goalkeeper Abbie Frank made six saves.

Lake goalkeeper Alex Wells made 18 saves. Monday at 7 p.m., GlenOak will play at Poland in a district semifinal.

Division II

Warren JFK 4, Springfield 1

WARREN — Erin McBride scored twice to lead the Eagles, while Adrian Ashdown and Jerrica Cooper added a goal apiece for JFK (16-1-1), which led 2-1 at halftime.

McBride had two assists, Samie Jo Marzullo had one and Helena Democopoulas had three saves. JFK will host Champion in a district semifinal at 7 p.m. Monday.

Ashlyn Italiano scored for Springfield (7-5-4) and Tiffany Johnson had 13 saves.

Lakeview 6, Bristol 0

CORTLAND — Lindsey Clark had two goals and an assist and Jen Ulam added one goal and one assist for Lakeview (12-4-2), which will host Mooney at 7 p.m. Monday.

Nicole Moldovan, Julie Bevilacqua and Laura Griffith added goals while Alli Gagne had an assist. Casey Boldt made three saves. Heidi Ulrich had 15 saves for Bristol.

Mooney 2, South Range 1

STRUTHERS — Amy Vinopal had both goals and Hannah Balogh and Lindsey Parkins had the assists for Mooney, which rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit. Rachel Letscher had nine saves for the Cardinals (6-8-4). Abby Ausnehmer scored and Kristin Robinson had five saves for the Raiders.

Salem 1, Aquinas 0

SALEM — Abi Pasco scored on an assist from Peyton Meals for Salem, which will play Orange at 7 p.m. Monday. Allison Thompson had 10 saves.
