Liberty, Girard and Hubbard police calls


A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Oct. 18

Arrests: A man and a boy, 14, both of Hubbard, were pulled over on U.S. Route 422, where the man was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The man kept the boy out after midnight in violation of the city’s curfew, police said.

Drugs: A traffic stop on Route 422 resulted in a summons to a Girard man charging him with drug abuse when, officers said, suspected marijuana and marijuana seeds were found.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 1100 block of Highland Avenue via a bedroom window. Numerous pieces of jewelry were missing.

Theft: Three pumpkins were removed from a front porch in the 500 block of East Prospect Street.

Burglary: Through the rear door to a residence in the 400 block of Indiana Avenue. Nothing seemed to be missing, however.

Oct. 19

Theft by deception: A Beechwood Drive woman reported receiving a $3,500 check from Portland, Ore., that her bank suspected was part of a scam. Accompanying the check was a letter claiming she had won $100,000 and advising her to cash the check, a report said.

LIBERTY

Oct. 16

Breaking and entering/damage: Someone entered and ransacked a residence in the 1400 block of Townsend Avenue, damaging a $400 flat-screen TV.

Misuse of a credit card: A Timbercrest Drive woman found out three fraudulent charges totaling $67 had been made to her checking account.

Theft: Two people were accused of stealing seven DVDs and an Xbox game from Wal-Mart, 200 Goldie Road, though neither had been charged at the time of the report.

Oct. 17

Burglary: To a home in the 400 block of Sampson Road in which a door had been forced open. Jewelry and other items were tampered with.

Theft: A charge was pending against a Hubbard man, 19, accused of stealing two boxes of arrowheads from Wal-Mart.

Oct. 18

Domestic violence: A township man, 37, was charged, accused of pushing his wife to the floor, choking the accuser and biting her breast during an argument. She had a bite mark in the affected area.

Burglary: Someone kicked in the front door to a home in the 200 block of Colonial Drive before taking a laptop computer, DVDs, a Sony PlayStation 3 game system and three PlayStation games.

Felonious assault: Authorities responded to a 911 call from the 3100 block of Hadley Drive, where they charged a 47-year-old Youngstown man with felonious assault, carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence. A man alleged his brother had pulled a 10-inch knife, tried to stab him in the abdomen and chased the accuser with the weapon; a police canine found the kitchen knife in mulch, a report showed.

Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a 39-year-old Youngstown woman wanted by Liberty authorities on a warrant.

Theft: A woman reported the theft of a $1,200 laptop computer from a residence in the 200 block of East Liberty Street.

Oct. 19

Burglary: Took place in the 60 block of Warner Road through the garage. Several TVs, a .40-caliber handgun and an air compressor were stolen.

Arrest: A traffic stop on state Route 193 led to a 22-year-old Youngstown man’s facing a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle when, a report said, a 9 mm handgun with nine rounds of ammunition was in the glove compartment.

Theft: Two metal fender flares were stolen from a home in the 2800 block of Belmar Avenue.

HUBBARD

Oct. 15

Theft: A checkbook was removed from a vehicle in the 500 block of West Liberty Street.

Recovered property: Youngstown police found a Cadillac that had been stolen from a Jacobs Road woman.

Oct. 16

Criminal mischief: Pumpkins were smashed at a home in the 300 block of Princeton Avenue.

Oct. 17

Arrests: In unrelated cases, two township women were accused of failure to file their city income taxes.

Arrest: A warrant was issued against a Hubbard man charging him with failure to appear on a disorderly-conduct charge.

Arrest: The Hubbard Mayor’s Court issued a warrant against a township woman. She was accused of failing to file her 2006 income taxes.

Oct. 18

Possible burglary: Police found an open door at a residence in the 6500 block of Lincoln Avenue.

Oct. 19

Criminal mischief: Plastic knives and forks were tossed into a yard in the 500 block of Meadowland Court.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s tires were flattened in the 1100 block of Waugh Drive.
