Dog training

NORTH JACKSON —The Youngstown All Breed Training Club is having its 58th Industrial Valley Classic and 10th Rally Trial at their training facility, 11801 Mahoning Ave. (across from Carter Lumber).

The rally will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and obedience from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. This is for spectators only. No unentered dogs are to be brought in.

Teams will demonstrate basic obedience skills competing at various levels. The basic objective of these trials is to recognize dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs.

The indoor trials offer an opportunity for the general public and dog owners to witness trained dogs at a training club, where they could join and train their own dogs.

Bolon in leadership role

COLUMBUS — A Democratic state representative from Columbiana County has been named to leadership in the Ohio House.

State Rep. Linda Bolon, a former Columbiana County treasurer who is in her second term at the Statehouse, will serve as assistant majority whip in the chamber.

The move was one of several made after Rep. Jennifer Garrison, a Democrat from Marietta, stepped down from her leadership post to run for secretary of state.

Bolon represents Ohio’s 1st District, covering Columbiana County. She previously served as clerk-treasurer for the Columbiana Public Library and on the East Palestine City Council. She also served for 14 years in the state auditor’s office.
