Trials set for police chiefs in surrogate-mother case

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio — Trial dates have been set for two southeast Ohio police chiefs accused of snooping on a Hollywood couple’s surrogate mother.

Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter and Police Chief Chad Dojack from neighboring Bridgeport are accused in an alleged scheme to take things from the Martins Ferry home of the woman who recently carried twins girls for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

Carpenter’s trial was set Thursday for Nov. 16 in Belmont County Common Pleas Court. Dojack’s trial was set for Jan. 12.

A special prosecutor said the chiefs, who are charged with several felonies, tried to sell items to celebrity photographers. Carpenter and Dojack have pleaded innocent.

Lohan gets another chance

LOS ANGELES — Lindsay Lohan is getting another chance. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel granted a request by the 23-year-old actress to extend her three-year probation another year, but the district attorney warned jail time would be sought if Lohan stumbled again. Lohan was ordered to appear in court Friday after her substance-abuse-treatment program notified the court she was missing meetings.

Lohan was placed on probation in 2007 after she pleaded guilty to two counts of being under the influence of cocaine and no contest to two counts of drunken driving and one count of reckless driving. Lohan has now escaped further punishment three times after the program notified the court she violated rules. Prior instances were described as misunderstandings.
