Victim of hit-skip in Salem still recuperating

SALEM — A Lisbon man is still recuperating in the hospital after being hit and dragged more than 250 feet while he was riding a motorized bicycle.

Scott Rudder, 45, of Mattix Road, Lisbon, was rushed to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown at 7:40 p.m. Oct. 8 after being knocked off of a motorized bicycle he was riding and dragged 254 feet under a 1992 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Ralph Crum, 49, of Prospect Street. The extent of Rudder’s injuries is not known.

According to police, Rudder was riding the unlighted motorized bicycle in the area of New Garden Avenue and Arch Street after dark when he was hit by the truck. Crum, police said, did not stop after the accident, but police did find the truck parked in a driveway in the 700 block of Prospect Street.

Police located Crum who reports say had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and a smell of alcoholic beverages about his person. Reports say he told police he had been driving while intoxicated, but did not realize he had hit a person. He said he thought he had hit a log in the street.

Crum was charged with hit/skip and OVI.

Charges are pending against Rudder for operating a motorized bicycle without the proper lighting.
