Columbus mayor, wife, ending their marriage

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The first couple of Ohio’s capital city have decided to divorce after 25 years.

Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman and wife Frankie Coleman announced in a brief statement today that they were dissolving their marriage but intended to remain friends.

The statement said the family would have no further comment.

The Colemans have three children. The mayor is a 54-year-old Democrat currently in his third term.

Frankie Coleman is 59 and has had very public scrapes with the law in recent years. In 2007, she pleaded no contest to charges she falsified time sheets to be paid for state work she didn’t do. She got five years’ probation and a $1,000 fine.

Two years earlier, she was sentenced to three days in jail on a guilty plea to drunken driving.
