Park Vista to feature living manger scene

YOUNGSTOWN — Park Vista Retirement Community will present a living manger from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 9-10 on its front lawn at 1216 Fifth Ave. The living manger will feature live animals and nativity figurines.

Christmas auction

NEW SPRINGFIELD – The Veterans of Foreign Wars Triangle Post 2799 has its Christmas Auction set for 4 p.m. Sunday at the post home, 3161 E. South Range Road.

Proceeds will be used for the post’s scholarship fund. A $1,000 college scholarship will be given for the first time this year to a Springfield High School student, and members hope to give one every year thereafter. Students should check with the school guidance office for more information.

The auction will feature all new merchandise at a discount, according to Fran Davidson of the scholarship committee. It will include brand-name toys, housewares, electronics, collectibles and more. Food and beverages will be sold, and there will be a bake sale. The public is invited.

Scholarship committee members, in addition to Davidson, are: Bill Zamarilli, Harold Hake, Dave Blower, Lauri Moss and Henry Morchals.

Tree-lighting in Beaver

NORTH LIMA— Beaver Township will conduct its annual holiday tree-lighting program at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial, state Routes 164 and 165.

The program will feature music by the South Range High School Choir. Santa Claus will make an appearance and refreshments will be available after the program at the Beaver Township Administration Office across the street. The festivities are open to all township residents, and there is no cost to attend.

Helping the hungry

NEWTON FALLS — The Newton Falls Police Department will help feed the hungry this Christmas with a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 19 at the police station, 19 N. Canal St. The department’s goal is to fill a cruiser with nonperishable foods that will be turned over to needy families. The department’s school-resource officer will work with Newton Falls schools to determine which families need help.

Santa Claus schedules arrival in Coitsville

COITSVILLE — Santa Claus will arrive at the township building at 6:45 p.m. Dec. 9.

The tree will be lighted that night. All township residents and employees are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

The township building is on U.S. Route 422.
