Hubbard man dies in apartment fire

HUBBARD — A man was killed after his apartment caught fire because of an overloaded electrical extension, said fire Chief John Clemente.

Clemente said Monday he does not yet have the identification of the victim confirmed from Saturday night’s fire at 261 Clingan Road in the city.

He said the victim was a man in his early 20s.

The fire broke out at 10:42 p.m. in the upstairs apartment at the duplex, Clemente said. The downstairs tenant called the fire department.

The fire started in a room the victim was using as an office or a spare room, Clemente said. That room was gutted, and the rest of the apartment was heavily damaged by smoke.
