Rescue group seeks winter food for dogs

NORTH JACKSON — Northeast Ohio Labrador Retriever Rescue is asking the public to participate in a food drive to help them feed dogs during the winter.

From now through Dec. 20 donations of dog food, treats and toys, and blankets or towels, paper towels and laundry detergent will be collected at the First Federated Church on Mahoning Avenue and Gem-Young Insurance on state Route 45.

Those making a donation can leave their names and phone numbers at the drop-off location, and they will be eligible to win a holiday basket of goodies.

Volunteers are needed to deliver meals

WARREN — Trumbull Mobile Meals Inc., 323 E. Market St., is seeking volunteers to assist in the delivery of meals to those in need of the service. Immediate volunteer opportunities exist for drivers on 25 routes in Warren and Girard.

Anyone who can spare an hour once a week, or even once a month, is invited to participate. For more information on the project call (330) 394-2538.

Volunteers deliver approximately 100,000 meals per year throughout Trumbull County. On a daily basis 50-55 volunteers deliver meals to more than 250 individuals. Many churches and organizations are cooperating in the project by assuming the responsibility for delivery routes on a weekly basis.

Preschool schedules pictures with Santa

BOARDMAN — St. Mark’s Building Blocks Preschool, 280 Mill Creek Drive, will host an annual Cookies With Santa event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Admission will be $4 for children 2 and older, and $2 for those under 2. The cost includes a picture with Santa, a small gift, crafts, and a treat.

YSU groups to host canned food drive

YOUNGSTOWN — From Monday through Thursday, Youngstown State University College Republicans and College Democrats will host a canned food drive for the Rescue Mission of Mahoning County. Donations can be placed in barrels on campus.

The Rescue Mission will deliver the food throughout the area to families hurting from economic hardships. In the past 10 years the organization has provided more than 1,300,000 meals for those in need, regardless of race, color or creed.
